BURO Bangladesh Waives Loans, Returns Savings for Korail Fire Victims

In response to the devastating fire that swept through Dhaka’s Korail, BURO Bangladesh has waived BDT 8.9 million in loans and begun returning anadditional BDT 2.2 million in savings to 76 affected members. The support aimsto ease the immediate financial burden on families and help them take steadysteps toward rebuilding their lives.
The blaze on 25 November destroyed or damaged about 1,500 shanties, leaving hundreds of families homeless. Following the fire, BURO Bangladesh conducted rapid assessments of members’ losses and implemented immediate relief measures, including full loan waivers and savings returns.
BURO Bangladesh recognizes the hardships faced by families affected by the fire and remains committed to supporting them through this crisis. Relieving debt and returning their savings is a critical part of enabling recovery, providing not only financial relief but also a sense of strength and a foundation for rebuilding their lives.
Korail,one of Dhaka’s largest informal settlements, is home to thousands of low-income families, many of whom are BURO Bangladesh members striving to make a living through daily wage work such as rickshaw driving, domestic service, and cleaning. BURO Bangladesh continues to stand with its members in times of crisis, providing support to help them recover and rebuild their lives with dignity.
